Technology is constantly moving forward in all industries and construction is no exception. Already, firms in Japan are using autonomous vehicles to speed up construction. These trends might reach the U.S. sooner rather than later.
Japanese construction team Komatsu is tasked with preparing Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics – a job that requires plenty of work in a relatively short time. With an aging workforce, Komatsu turned to aerial drones and driverless bulldozers to get some of the brunt work done more efficiently.
These techniques could be of use to the U.S., especially if Boston wins the 2024 Olympic bid. Drones can help contractors plan out and track projects, while the bulldozers can make quick work of earth-moving.
